BRINGING SOLID SURFACE LOCKERS TO COLLEGIATE GOLF

In 2020, University of Utah Athletics began construction on the David S. Layton Golf Academy, a $2.9 million, 7,000-square-foot facility that will give Utah student-athletes a first-class training experience right on campus. Beecher Walker was named the architect for the project, and Shield was tapped to manufacture the lockers.

Shield worked collaboratively with the university’s athletic department, BWA Architects, and Layton Construction to deliver 18 player lockers truly unique to the needs of Utes golf. The locker design features a solid surface build and laminate back.

Additional features include:

  • Integrated feature lighting
  • Acrylic donor nameplate and backlit player nameplate
  • Solid surface doors with etched color-infilled logo
  • Lockbox with digital lock
  • Ventilated upper storage
In total, 18 lockers found their new home at the David S. Layton Golf Academy, giving the Utes a competitive edge for training and recruitment. This was our second project with the University of Utah - we've worked on their softball and football projects as well.

"We started working with Shield in 2016 and it's been an awesome partnership. They work collaboratively with the athletic department and design team to bring something truly unique to our programs. Our lockers have withstood multiple seasons with no issues or need for repair, which is a testament to the longevity of solid surface and Shield's craftsmanship. With their lifetime warranty, we plan to keep our lockers for years to come."
