BRINGING SOLID SURFACE LOCKERS TO THE MARYLAND TERRAPINS

The Barry P. Gossett Basketball Performance Center is a new 45,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art training facility for Maryland men’s and women’s basketball, built adjacent to the XFINITY Center as part of the university’s “Building Champions” initiative. Breaking ground in June 2023 and opening in September 2025, the center features dedicated practice courts, Sorinex-equipped strength and conditioning areas, hydrotherapy rooms, expanded locker rooms, film study and meeting spaces, team lounges, and offices for both coaching staffs, with a tunnel connecting directly to the arena. Designed to elevate the student-athlete experience, enhance recruiting, and support long-term program success, the facility represents a major investment in the future of Maryland basketball. Gensler was selected as the architect for the project, and Shield was tapped to manufacture the lockers.

Shield worked collaboratively with the university’s athletic department and Gensler to deliver 36 player lockers truly unique to the needs of Terrapins men's and women's basketball. The locker design features a solid surface build.

In total, 32 lockers found their new home at Gossett Basketball Performance Center, giving the Terrapins a competitive edge for training and recruitment.
