BRINGING SOLID SURFACE LOCKERS TO THE NHL

Capital One Arena, home of the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards, underwent a major, multi-phase modernization led by Monumental Sports & Entertainment with Gensler as design architect, alongside Clark Construction and CAA ICON. The $800M+ renovation goes far beyond cosmetic updates, targeting improved fan circulation and concourses, expanded food-and-beverage and seating options, new premium clubs and social decks, and substantial behind-the-scenes upgrades for athletes - including modern training, recovery, and team facilities. When Shield was offered the opportunity to manufacture the player lockers for both the Capitals and the Wizards, as well as the auxiliary lockers throughout the facility, our response was a resounding hell yes.

Shield worked collaboratively with the Capitals and Gensler to deliver 26 lockers truly unique to the needs of Wizards Basketball. The locker design features a solid surface build and laminate back.

Additional features include:

  • Soft-close ventilated upper storage
  • Nameplate
  • Feature lighting
  • Integrated power + USB
  • Skate hooks
  • Marine-grade vinyl bench seat and lumbar cushion
  • Drop-down lumbar storage
  • Lift-up bench storage
In total, over 300 lockers found their new home at Capital One Arena, giving the Pirates a competitive edge for training and recruitment.
